I took a little stroll around Belleville to enjoy some of the sunshine. With days that are pitch black by 5 now, the sunny mild moments are much appreciated and coveted whenever possible. It's a pretty quiet downtown area. Pretty much dead after the sun goes down, except for the Motel the city wants to shut down on one end and the strip joint on the other. Oh Belleville. Always an interesting place. Kind of reminds me of walking along George Street back home on any given Tuesday or Saturday night.
This late afternoon stroll was just the end to one of those days that just go so well, so smooth. Starts off nicely and ends just the same. I had a conversation with a Slovakian man, I think he said Slovakia anyway, along the bridge downtown. We talked about art, life, politics and the environment... I think. He spoke to me and sometimes it just didn't make sense, but he was passionate about it and I guess I answered correctly because he nodded and said "fuckin' right" a lot. We chatted for about 30 minutes and he parted by telling me to get out and see the world, live it, because soon we won't have those freedoms. He was the second in 3 days to tell me that. I was told by an old German lady to travel, see the beautiful places and see what's really out there, and that I looked like I enjoy that and I belong doing it.Believing in Karma, as I do, I took it as a sign with regards to Germany and Egypt next month.
I'm getting so excited about it, I just hope I can stay focused enough here over the next 30 days until I go but I'm sure it will just fly by. I can't believe I only have one semester left to this program then I'm out in the big girl world playin' photojournalist.
Wow.
