Toronto, ON (23/11/09) - Gary sleeps on a grate in front of City Hall on Bay Street. "People walk by and say mean things to me. Things that are not true. They don't know me and still they say mean things."
Having missed my bus back to Belleville and class, I wanted to make the most of an extended day in the city. So, I headed downtown to Union Station at eight in the morning and spent some time wandering around taking in the hustle and bustle of a busy Monday morning.
Then, I met Gary. I sat with him, had a coffee, some conversation and we watched life pass by. Life passes him by often. Most of the faces stare in disgust, some in pity or they turn their eyes the other way. Even just sitting there on the chilly concrete with him, I witnessed people look at me with faces that read they were wondering why I was there.
I don't think there was anywhere else I should have been that morning.
